Extension of Validity

I got a short validity passport under tatkaal, with a Verification Certificate. How can I get the validity extended to 10 years?

You need submit your passport with Form-2 duly filled in. Handwritten endorsements are being done away with. The fee payable for issue of a fresh booklet with validity of the normal period of 10 years is the booklet fee (Rs. 500/-). No tatkaal fee is required to be paid,if there is no change in any of the particulars mentioned on the passport.

I have a 20 year validity passport. Is it possible to reduce the validity to 10years?

Yes, Please submit form No.2 duly filled-in. Since handwritten endorsements are being done away with, a new booklet with normal validity will be issued, on payment of booklet fee (Rs. 500/-).No tatkaal fee is required to be paid, if there is no change in any of the particulars mentioned on the passport.
