Students Staying in Hostels

I am a student staying in a hostel, away from my permanent address. How do I apply for a passport and what proof of residence should I provide?
You have the option to make an application to the Regional Passport office where your parents permanently reside or to the office where you presently reside.

In the former case, you need to mention about your study in column 7 of the application.Documents for residence proof can be that of your parents.

In the latter case, bona fide certificate from the college/school is acceptable for address proof.Your parents' address should be given as the permanent address.
